Snipers are armed with the Scoped Springfield, featuring a Weaver Model 330 scope. Snipers can squeeze more damage with their Springfield than standard men and can aim longer distances, making this the ultimate long-range anti-infantry weapon (50% chance to kill an enemy with the first shot). Snipers also have a higher chance to hit vehicle crew (75% chance, vs. the 50% chance of other units).
The range of the Springfield itself not actually increased, but rather the accuracy in which a target can be reliably hit is increased due to a telescopic scope that aids aiming at most distances, as opposed to iron sights, which provide less target detection capabilities, aiming and identification. The introduction of scopes to a weapon provides improvements to both long range effectiveness and reconnaissance capabilities.
